1. We believe that a free, high quality public education is a fundamental Civil and human right that should be protected by the United States Constitution.
2. We believe that the foundation and core of a democracy is an informed and engaged populace, and that the development of an informed and engaged populace requires a high quality public education for every child.
3. We believe that achieving a high quality public education for all will require building popular support and coordinated action amongst a diverse alliance of students, parents, teachers, administrators, public officials, legal experts, community members and organizations.
4. We believe that people who have historically been and are presently excluded from high quality educational opportunities, particularly people from poor communities, immigrant communities, and communities of color, must play a leading role in the vision, formulation, and actualization of the work toward ensuring a high quality public education for all.
5. We believe that education is too important a public function to be run by corporate and private interests with any bottom line other than educational excellence for all students.
